Blue Label Pizza & Wine

It’s not often that a new pizza spot in Singapore gets us all abuzz, but when we heard Travis Masiero (of Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chop House fame) was opening Blue Label Pizza & Wine in the heart of the Club Street hood, it definitely piqued our interest. After all, Travis serves up some of the best steaks and seafood in the city, so we wondered how he would fare with what he calls “a modern take on the neighbourhood pizzeria”. Not quite sure what to expect, we made our way down to Ann Siang Hill and found Blue Label to be chic little spot with good vibes, great tunes, and what are arguably some of the best pizzas in Singapore.

Why you should come here:

You won’t find much signage outside to confirm you’ve arrived at Blue Label Pizza & Wine, but look for the bright blue walls and you can’t miss it (if you’re familiar with the old B28 Whisky Bar, Blue Label takes over this spot). Head to the basement and you’ll find an inviting space with soft lighting, lots of wood, and comfy banquettes. The ambience is easy-going and the menu is straightforward with a selection of small plates, salads, and stone-fired pizzas dressed up with artisan toppings. The wine list is impressive with bottles from all over the world, and there’s a helpful sommelier who can help pair your pizza to your vino.

What we love:

The vibe here is really chill with 70s and 80s rock playing in the background and friendly staff who are helpful and attentive. Definitely check out the wine list it has a varied selection including daily rotating wines by the glass that change depending on the sommelier’s favourite red, white, and bubbles of the moment. You can also order half bottles of any label on the menu thanks to the Coravin system. Score!

For starters we loved the Chicago-style spinach and artichoke dip; a great choice if you want something comforting and don’t give a hoot about calories. Luke’s fans can grab oysters at $7 a pop, and for those who want something light and refreshing, the vegetable crudites are a good bet (if you don’t mind spending $24 on veggies – ouch). We also tried the buffalo wings but found them a bit too sweet for our taste, nonetheless, still worth ordering if you’re a wing fan.

We didn’t go too crazy with the pizzas and kept it simple with Like a Caprese (verdict: brilliant). Think thin, crispy crust topped with zingy tomato sauce, roasted tomatoes, fresh basil, and oh-so-creamy burrata and goat’s milk feta. Word on the street is all the pizzas are equally good and we ain’t surprised; we’ve already got our eyes on the Dr. Peperoni for next time.

UJ Tidbit:

Blue Label Pizza & Wine is not cheap, but it’s perfect if you’re looking for an easy-going meal in close to the CBD. If there are two of you, grab a spot at the bar and chat up the bartender as you wait for your food. We also suggest saving room for dessert because the Luke’s chocolate chip cookie and vanilla soft serve are pretty out of this world.
