Kilo Kitchen: A New Chapter Begins at their New Home in Duxton

Kilo Kitchen

If you’ve been following us, then you know we’ve always been big fans of Kilo. So when we heard they were leaving their Kampong Bugis location and moving up near us at Duxton, we were a little sad because we’ve had plenty of good times at the old locale, but happy at the same time because now we can just rock up whenever we like instead of making a plan to ‘head to Kilo this weekend’. We recently did just that to check out what the new space and menu is all about.

Our experience:

Upon walking in, we were greeted with familiar faces including co-founders Joshua Adjodha and Javier Perez we immediately felt the sense of home that we usually felt at the old spot. It was a Wednesday night and there was a nice vibe going on with good house tunes playing in the background. We love the open kitchen concept and the fact that you can sit at the bar, outdoors (although it’s a bit hot), in the lounge, or in the dining room. We reckon the bar would be a great spot for a date, especially on the weekends when we imagine the restaurant being even buzzier.

We were happy to see some of our old favorites on the menu alongside a few new creations. We opted in for one of our favourite dishes from the old spot, the seafood ceviche which came loaded with tuna, octopus, and snapper in a fresh, tangy marinade. We also opted in for the soft shell crab with red curry and watermelon—we appreciated the diverse mix of flavours, textures, and temperatures and if you like curry, definitely order this.

For mains, we were debating between the grilled lamb shank with roasted red peppers and za’atar bread which remember loving off the old menu, but we went for the beef tacos and grilled avocado instead. We love all things avocado and this grilled version is definitely worth a re-order on the next trip.

About:

Kilo opened in 2011 at the previous Kampong Bugis locale, and from the beginning it’s always been about conviviality, comfort food, and great convos over cocktails.  We’re also happy to see Chef Manuel Valero return to Kilo Kitchen. We’ve followed his journey from Kilo to different restaurants and now back, and have always enjoyed his food. Another bonus is that Kilo Lounge is just down the road, so this makes it easier to get the party started. When Kilo Lounge was located at 66 Kampong Bugis, our night was set because we’d just go upstairs after dinner and now, we just need to walk down the road.

Urban Journey says:

While we’re still a bit reminiscent of the old space, we definitely see nights in our future where we start out with a few drinks and bites here and end up at Kilo Lounge until it closes. The full menu is still in the works, but we can’t wait to go back for more once more dishes are added to the menu.

That being said, we think Kilo Kitchen is here to stay. In fact, we see this as a fab party spot, so if you’re looking to book a birthday dinner or celebration, we say give Kilo a go. Well done, team. We look forward to spending many nights with you in 2019!
