Hey CBDers, Indulge in These Sweet Treats on Your Next Coffee Break

by Anjali Datwani

If you work in the CBD, then you know how important those coffee ‘meetings’ are, and nothing makes a coffee break better than a little something indulgent to go with your caffeine fix. We’re sticklers when it comes to quality coffee and pastries, so when our sugar levels get low mid-morning or mid-afternoon, we have a few spots that are guaranteed to give us the good stuff. From fluffy croissants to freshly baked cupcakes, and cocoa-rich brownies, these are our top picks for the best pastries and baked goods in Singapore’s CBD.

Common Man Stan

Common Man Stan has just launched a new line of sweet and savoury treats that pair perfectly with their excellent brews. Take your pick from sumptuous snacks designed especially for coffee breaks like the south-west honey cheesecake with pecan crumble, flourless Valrhona chocolate cake, Tiong Bahru Bakery croissants, and housemade sausage rolls. And don’t forget about Donut Fridays when you can grab delicious gourmet donut creations.

Common Man Stan, 11 – 12 Stanley Street, Singapore 068730. p. +65 6877 4855. Open daily 7:30am – 5:30pm

Maison Kayser

For those who don’t have a sweet tooth affliction, a simple fluffy croissant with a black coffee might be the perfect coffee break snack. If this sounds like your style, then Maison Kayser is your spot. Founded in Paris by master baker Eric Kayser, this artisanal bakery has four locations in Singapore that offer up authentic French classics like the humble, but heavenly croissant, tasty tarts, eclairs and loaves of freshly baked bread.

Park Bench Deli

When you think of Park Bench Deli, it’s probably huge, brimming over sandwiches that come to mind, but if you’re looking for something a bit sweeter, try the PB&J. Trust us, this isn’t the tired old PB&J you remember from your childhood brown bag lunches. Instead, their version comes jam-packed (pun intended) with crunchy peanut butter and mixed berry jam on a crunchy and chewy cornflake-crusted chocolate bread. Drool.

Park Bench Deli, 179 Telok Ayer Street, Singapore 068627. p. +65 6815 4600. Open Mon – Fri 7:30am – 9pm, Sat – Sun 9am – 3pm

Patisserie G

You can’t go wrong with pretty much anything you order at Patisserie G as the coffee is solid and the cakes are all kinds of delicious. However, if there’s one thing you absolutely must try at least once in your life, it’s the G-Spot cake. This decadent dome hits all the right spots with an alluring combo of dark chocolate mousse, chocolate meringue, and dark chocolate hazelnut praline feuilletine.

P.Osh

There’s no coffee at P.Osh, but you probably won’t mind once you take your first bite of one of their insanely good brownies. Honestly, we haven’t found anywhere else that does brownies this fresh and sinfully delicious. It’s a bold statement, but true. Choose from a variety of flavours including the classic chewy brownie, mint coco, or Oreo version. Pair it with a cup of joe from your favourite CBD coffee spot for a match made in heaven.

Set in the Telok Ayer hood, Sarnies is renowned for its superb signature coffees and tasty Aussie-style cafe fare.
