New Eco-Friendly Hotels in the Caribbean

If you are an eco-conscious traveler, you will be happy to know there are plenty of eco-friendly hotels in the Caribbean.  Here, we roundup the newest properties in the Caribbean that are helping restore and protect the natural surroundings where many stay, play and live. Read below to find out about the latest eco-friendly hotels that have opened (or are opening) on various islands of the Caribbean.

 

Dominica

Couloubri Ridge

Couloubri Ridge sits on 200 acres of lush wilderness and harnesses the sun, wind and rain to operate its resort. Every aspect of the resort was carefully thought through in order to minimize the impact on the environment. The resort uses solar energy as its main power source to preserve the beautiful surroundings of Dominica.

There are 14 spacious hotel suites that make up this eco-friendly resort, all of which have terraces and sea views. Amenities include two communal pools, spa, fitness center and more. Couloubri Ridge encompasses sustainable luxury at is best.

 

Dominican Republic

Cayo Levantado (opening June 2023)

This newly renovated resort has just opened its doors. What makes it so unique is that is sits on its own private island in the Dominican Republic, the island of Cayo Levantado.

The resort is working hard to protect its surrounding environment, flora and fauna. Renewable energy like thermal energy, solar panels and heat recovery are used to power the hotel. Waste management strategies are also implemented.

This all-inclusive resort has 219 stylish rooms and a focus on wellness. Guests can enjoy meals at Santa Yuca slow food restaurant made with sustainably sourced produce and spend afternoons at the wellness center.

 

Bonaire

Belnem House

This boutique hotel property is a fully solar powered property and uses biodegradable products. The resort is made up of 31 luxury suites, apartments and penthouses, some of which are swim out rooms, located right by the pool. It’s conveniently located and nearby plenty of restaurants and by the beach for all the dive enthusiasts who want to explore the marine life in Bonaire.

 

Grenada

Six Senses (opening Oct 2023)

Six Senses, La Sagresse is the first of the Six Sense group that will hit the Caribbean. As all of their hotels,this too has a big focus on sustainability.  The resort will be plastic-free and be self-sufficient. There will be a kitchen and herb gardens which will be used to source ingredients for the restaurants and spa and seafood will be sourced locally. The resort will also provide education for their guests at The Six Senses Earth Lab, where they can learn about lightening their carbon footprint in the world.

This eco-friendly resort will be spread over 38 acres and will have 56 guest rooms, five two bedroom villas and seven one bedroom villas. There will be restaurants and bars on property, as well as the Six Senses Spa. The  hotel is set to open in October 2023.
